The fog created by trying to communicate without defining your terms.

Our Solar System and Life Out There

"Extra dimensions" that's a heady subject that takes almost faith like belief, to get into, and as you say so far are neither provable nor disprovable. But as I fail to specify, I guess I should clarify that I am postulating the ability to use the space that exist and is equal to the space...

Question Jet using methane as fuel

I would imagine that the real probability of methane use as a Jet fuel within the earth's atmosphere would depend on whether it's ratio of combustion to thrust capacity along with its load/storage capacity(?); will exceed its environmental impact capacity. As compared to kerosene-based fuels.

Question How does Earth have a magnetic field when it doesn't meet the electromagnetic requirements (an iron core is insufficient)?

Hey funny you mention light (visible) being more than what we see and or think it is. I wrote (Sci-Fi book) in which I use refracted light as a means for other than illumination.

Question How does Earth have a magnetic field when it doesn't meet the electromagnetic requirements (an iron core is insufficient)?

Ah science and the application of the physics, in it, can be both fun and instructive. Not to mention scarry for those that did not get to observe the events leading to the results of its application.

Our Solar System and Life Out There

I have no doubt about the validity of that statement. That we will not and cannot communicate with an advanced civilization; perhaps never. At least not with the rules physics imposes on us. If and when it happens the best, we can expect is that we will have intercepted a message sent out to...

In the Milky Way, 3 intruder stars are 'on the run' — in the wrong direction

In this trio of stars, I conclude that one of them, Oley, is in the driver's seat. So does that make the other two companions, abductees; or maybe even a mini posse out to try and corral the escapee.

Question How does Earth have a magnetic field when it doesn't meet the electromagnetic requirements (an iron core is insufficient)?

Man, thanks for letting me know. I guess I shouldn't be playing my 45's at 78 RPM's, on my turntable, if I want to keep them working as they should ...regardless of how far out they make me feel.

In the Milky Way, 3 intruder stars are 'on the run' — in the wrong direction

We have what we call rogue planets, and what we call rogue comets. Each with its own peculiar characteristic for having been assigned that adjective. Perhaps now we a captive rogue star. I say perhaps because I have to assume that it is way too early to tell that they have indeed been captured...

Our Solar System and Life Out There

Well that was an interesting read. Who knows maybe later once and or/if a delimiter of/for warm debris disks is found the study can become a real jaw dropping.

Question How does Earth have a magnetic field when it doesn't meet the electromagnetic requirements (an iron core is insufficient)?

I do not agree that I am being misled nor that I misunderstand the question: A core tenet of electrical engineering is that to generate a current, you need three things: a conductor, a magnetic field, and motion. The above statement comes directly from Space Crumpet's original comment #1. Then...

Our Solar System and Life Out There

Speaking of abundant life the odd just got better. And that’s just in our galaxy multiply that per galaxy and …well what can I say …that Enrico Fermi didn’t already say.

Our Solar System and Life Out There

I know what you mean ...hey, do me a favor .... promise not to tell anyone ok??? I use my crystal ball to see what I need to do vis-a- vis the stock market. Sadly, it doesn't seem to be doing any better than when I was using tea leaves.

Our Solar System and Life Out There

True we're seeing the past today. Not quite the same as being able to see into the past. Well, that is if we define seeing into the past as being able to come back to a point closer to the present and then using that newly acquired past knowledge to manipulate that past present(?)

Our Solar System and Life Out There

I agree we may be able to determine that with better telescopes, I however also believe we will need more than just better telescopes. We will need dedicated probes not just fly-bys.

Question How does Earth have a magnetic field when it doesn't meet the electromagnetic requirements (an iron core is insufficient)?

However, the Earth has only a conductor (its core) and motion (its rotation) but no current, so how does it generate a magnetic field? Well, I wouldn't go that far... there is such a thing as static electricity. Which with nothing but opportunity generates a current. Maybe we're looking for...

Our Solar System and Life Out There

Life out there …And beyond our position, at greater galactic radii, we find a deserted wasteland. And so, it seems that life would almost inevitably arise here, on this world, around this sun, in this region of the Milky Way galaxy. There's little else that we could conceivably call home...

Scientists may finally know where the biggest, oldest black holes in the universe came from.

A small colony of 10 to 15 people on Mars or the Moon will not perpetuate the human species for even a 100 years without vast resources from a robust human population on Earth!! Even if all goes well, the Earth will be a cinder in 1 billion years because the Sun is heating up by 6% per billion...

Question Why We Haven’t Met Any Aliens Yet?

Absolutely for all we know aliens do live even within our solar system, perhaps even among us. That would not necessarily mean that they are hiding from us and or avoiding us. The answer could be as simple as that their life forms are so different from ours. That their physical beings are...
