What time is Boeing's 1st Starliner astronaut launch for NASA on May 6?

The article was updated to the attempt on June 1st, but the original post was not. -Wolf sends

NASA's Mars sample return mission is in trouble. Could a single SLS megarocket be the answer?

Dangers still exist. We just don't know. To my understanding, anything collected and returned to Earth (either from the Moon, Mars or an asteroid) is immediately classified as highly dangerous and placed into our highest level HAZMAT quarantine facility until deemed safe for our biosphere...

    Betelgeuse goes Supernova

Betelgeuse is about 700 light years from Earth. That means that if it went supernova, it would take 700 years for the light from that explosion to arrive and been seen on Earth. Until that happens, we won't know if or if not the star has exploded. I do not think that the star going supernova...

Watch the Full Pink Moon 2024 bloom in the night sky tonight

Always enjoyed seeing my shadow via the light of a full moon. Difficult if there's too much light pollution, as with my current situation, but as a kid, living out among the cornfields of MN, pretty easy. -Wolf sends

Do you want to spend a year inside a mock Mars base for science? If so, NASA wants you.

I still don't understand why they don't run these simulations down in Antarctica. I'd think the dry valleys near McMurdo Sound would be ideal for simulating Mars' environment. -Wolf sends

An asteroid will hit Earth at some point. What can we do about it?

Pretty sure the entire community on theoretical countermeasures has considered all that. If something were discovered today, I doubt we could get any kind of response in place for several months. If impact is sooner than that, well... nice knowing you all! :) -Wolf sends

An asteroid will hit Earth at some point. What can we do about it?

Have to agree with @Atlan0001 on this one. We've barely scratched the surface of understanding the physics of the Universe. If we can somehow manage to survive the next few millennia without getting wiped out (or destroying ourselves), then I think that's one nut we might actually crack. -Wolf...

Scientists may finally know where the biggest, oldest black holes in the universe came from.

To quote School House Rocky, "Cause knowledge is power!" The more we know (or the more we think we know), the better the understanding of the environment of the Universe. With more knowledge, we're better able to predict what is necessary for the ability of future generations to survive "out...

The moon once had way more water than we ever imagined, lunar meteorite reveals

Makes sense if the Moon was orbiting around the Earth at the time of the Late Heavy Bombardment. It probably would have collected a significant amount of water from that, just as the Earth did (theoretically). -Wolf sends

NASA delays Artemis 2 astronaut moon launch to September 2025

I would argue that with the advances in technology over the past 50+ years, comes a whole slew of new points of failure that we simply haven't been able to navigate through as yet. I also think this generation lacks "Go Fever" which was so prominent back in the original space race (probably a...
