World's 1st wooden satellite deploys from ISS to demonstrate cleaner spacecraft tech (photo)

Your post prompted me to Google WISA Woodsat and Ranger 3. Interesting. The WISA Woodsat Scandinavian origins will no doubt encourage the tongue in cheek commenters. I am having trouble myself to avoid such.

Scientists find quantum entanglement on incredibly tiny scales — within individual protons

Einstein may well have been troubled by entanglement at a distance but surely would have disputed entanglement over sub atomic distances where other forces are at play.

James Webb Space Telescope suggests 'new cosmic feature' is needed to solve 'Hubble trouble

Has anybody fully analysed credible alternatives to the concept of the accelerating expansion of the universe? There is one line of approach that requires no complex effects or parameters. Those galaxies at great distances travel faster than closer galaxies simply because they were generated...

Sun blasts out most powerful flare of current solar cycle, sends massive coronal mass ejection into space (video)

Did I read the article right? "The most powerful flare ever recorded, which was estimated at roughly a X45 back in 2003". Lucky it was on the far side of the sun.

Euclid telescope finds 1.5 trillion orphan stars wandering the Perseus cluster (images)

The team seem to be so carried away with their 1.5 trillion orphan stars they are ignoring the elephant in the room. "they saw that orphan stars orbited a point between the cluster's two brightest galaxies, NGC 1275 and NGC 1272". They have to orbit something. what is it? If they are just...

Exotic 'Einstein ring' suggests that mysterious dark matter interacts with itself

The bilateral symmetry is a good indicator of gravitational lensing. The diametrically opposing red features are typical of perfect lensing. If the lens was offset these features would be smeared.

A shallow lake in Canada could reveal how life on Earth began

Looking for real life environments for the start of life on earth is futile because modern day bacteria, algae etc. would immediately colonize and modify that environment. Sterile lab investigations are the way to go.

Cosmic rays pose dangers to frequent flyers. This radiation detector could help.

Rather little detail on the detection technique used. I suspect that all is being done is to detect the resulting gamma ray intensity. A much easier thing to do than detect cosmic ray intensity, and not novel. Just take a Geiger counter up with you on your next flight and observe the results. My...

'Vanishing stars' citizen-science project opens the skies to the public

Interesting phenomenom. I have seen this effect to some extent on more visible stars. Variations in infrared sensitivity of CCD detectors can cause variations in image brightness. Older CCD detectors were more sensitive to infrared than modern detectors. Photographic emulsions also show...
