NASA and DARPA will build a nuclear rocket by 2027

Let's not get carried away. No way such a device has the power to accelerate on the whole Martian journey. As a estimate it might be sufficient to accelerate for an hour perhaps, then decelerate for another hour. When you consider that a chemical rocket accelerates no more than about 12...

Why haven't aliens contacted Earth? New Fermi Paradox analysis suggests we're not that interesting yet

We are fortunate to have a large moon companion to help point the way to space travel. If our planet were only a little larger with a corresponding increase in atmospheric depth and pressure it would likely be impossible for humanity to get off the earth.

Why haven't aliens contacted Earth? New Fermi Paradox analysis suggests we're not that interesting yet

Did you really think the movie "CONTACT" was factual? How about Bugs Bunny then too? It does not take much of a telescope to see the 4 Galilean moons moving about Jupiter. They are not aliens of course, but rather just moons and large ones too. Much larger than anyone would expect...

Satellites watch Europe get hit by most severe winter heatwave ever

And don't any of you people dare try to enjoy the warm winter weather or you will be reported to the climate police! Intense winter heatwave indeed. Sounds deadly but is actually quite pleasant. Climate is not made by two or three days of unusual WEATHER.

SpaceX Raptor Methane Fuel vs. NASA SLS Hydrogen Engine

I disagree that SpaceX is purely commercial. It is being done for altruistic reason, to get to Mars and form a colony of back-up earth life. Most people cannot imagine altruism, well these is one very good example if you are watching and listening. Remaining space shuttle engines are being...

We now know exactly how much radiation astronauts will face on the moon

Would water stop this radiation? And if so to what depth? If it works to any significant extent and since we need water anyway why not surround ourselves with it or at least our sleeping quarters?

Colonizing Mars may require humanity to tweak its DNA

That will never happen. Who could decide when all earth's people are living together amicably. Get over it and get on with the exploration and habitation. Our species needs to learn but sitting here (on earth) waiting for things to quiet down would mean never getting off the earth, never...

Private companies find role in developing nuclear power for space travel

Agree with the first commenter. You can't fission hydrogen. The whole article requires review and a rewrite to get this weird nuclear concept clarified.

2 potentially habitable 'Super-Earths' and a record-setting 'Cold Neptune' found in exoplanet haul

True, as long as the star is small and the planet is big. This method won't work well for stars of both about 1 solar mass (our own) and planets of 1 earth mass unless sensitivity of wobble detection can be improved enormously. I am not sure where we are at now though. The degree of a...

    Greenhouse Effect?

Commenting on the lack of a greenhouse effect on the moon as mentioned in the article. The article implied, or perhaps much more strongly, stated that the dark side of the moon is very cold. What is the dark side of the moon -- is it the side we cannot see from earth or as is the commonly...
