A very modest amount of internet searching would reveal the answers about the SpaceX Mini power requirements, although I agree that the article would have been better if it had included such details.
It seems quite odd to me that NASA is launching a scientific mission to Mars on the inagural flight of a brand new rocket from a company that has never ever even put a single satellite into orbit. Is this a throw-away NASA mission? Or is a desperation move to avoid using SpaceX at any cost...
In my opinion NASA should be investigated as to why they are even investigating this event. It's a real stretch to pretend that it has anything to do with "public safety" rather than "stick it to SpaceX."
