Introduce yourself! (And show us your swag)

Have posted on Space.com for only a little while. My name is Jim. Retired computer programmer and ESL teacher (13 years in a foreign country I prefer not to name.) Now living there with my wife. Spent couple years in US Army, a couple in Peace Corps in Malawi (witnessed return of Halley's comet...

    Binoculars

Late reply and would be interested in what you settled on. I have a pair of 8x30 Canon Image Stabilized binocs and absolutely love them. Not the best size for astronomy but still can see rings of Saturn and moons of Jupiter and moon is glorious. Image stabilizers are great - no tripod worries...

As a kid, did you ever play with model Rockets ?

I still played with them at 40.

Contact with other forms of life?

Has anyone who has experienced an NDE (Near Death Experience) ever seen an alien in heaven? Perhaps they have no souls.

    SpaceX Lies

Where would we be now without Musk and SpaceX? Still relying on the Russians to get us to ISS. This sounds like a case of penis envy.

AI, robotics and possible human like Androids.

The elephant in the room is "what is consciousness?" If we can't define it, or even figure out how it works, then how can we replicate it? AI is still a black-box. There are cases of people missing vast amounts of their brains and still having 100+ IQ. Is consciousness emergent? Where is...

    Jeff Bezos is right

Musk says may take as little as 4 launches to refuel Starship for the moon. Regardless, it is time this technology got done and who better than Musk is qualified?

    Or debacle.

Bill Shatner to fly with Blue Origin.

Shatner should fly SpaceX and really go to space.

Bill Shatner to fly with Blue Origin.

"The names of two other members of the crew besides Shatner have also been released: Chris Boshuizen, a former NASA engineer and co-founder of Planet Labs, and Glen de Vries, a co-founder of Medidata Solutions. The two other passengers will be announced by the end of the week. " -...

What are the Orion astronauts doing these days?

Those poor astronauts who trained on Orion so many years ago must be getting tired of waiting to launch. I don't read much about them. Anyone know what they are up to?

NASA: Let's end SLS right now

I agree, SLS should go away. Except that a jobs program isn't such a bad idea to keep engineers and technicians working I guess - I'm torn about that. In Wyandotte, MI you can see WPA (Works Projects Administration) bricks from the 1930s and 40s in the city sidewalks. Even if they never launch...

Looking at Saturn and Jupiter on 9/12/2021

Thanks, I will check it out and try again. The telescope eyepiece is definitely smeared so will clean that up. My wife sticking her eye into the eyepiece.
