Feature This week's community question is about eclipses!

I saw a solar eclipse in Hawaii in 1992. It was 92% totality. Being a tourist destination the hotels and shops were making the most of it selling eclipse glasses and and other related things. I remember it still got dark out even though it wasn't total.

Feature This week's community question concerns space travel!

A very large amount of digital media including music, books and photographs and devices to use it. Toothbrushes with toothpaste to last two plus years and as much toilet paper I can carry. A handball and football if gravity is simulated along with my favorite baseball cap. Also if I could I...

Feature What is your favourite space memory?

The 1989 Planetfest run by the Planetary Society in celebration of Voyager 2s flyby of Neptune and the end of it's planetary exploration. STEVE is smearing green 'streaks' across the sky, and nobody knows why

Given Arecibo's many accomplishments over the years such as discovering millisecond pulsars, the first extra-solar planet and so much more it warrants rebuilding the telescope in situ. I know nothing about funding such an endeavor but trying to get additional colleges and universities on board...

Astronauts bound for Mars should swing by Venus first, scientists say

The fastest spacecraft ever to leave Earth (or escape it's influence) was the New Horizons probe to Pluto. It left the Earth at over 36000 mph using the never before used Atlas V-551 which has an added third stage and five SRBs. It passed Jupiter about a year after launch. So their solution was...

The space station is getting a new toilet later this year

Will this be toilet #2? Other waste disposal in space facts I didn't know before this was that Neil and Buzz left 96 bags of solid waste on the moon. We could send the people who believe the moon landings were faked to bring it back to earth. Also as per Russian media in February 2019 the...

Question Are SpaceX helping NASA to get to the moon?

The government funds the CCDev program under NASA's guidance so apparently they don't want to do the same for Orion and Gateway. NASA's budget is decided by Congress and they generally direct them on what programs to use the money on. I think Elon Musk wants the Starship to go to the moon but...

Mars Colonies will save Earth and finally make it beautiful everlasting

In theory that does sound good for future life on Earth except there will never be billions or even millions of people going to Mars just to live underground. No magnetic field means no protection from deadly radiation bombarding the planet. Terra-forming Mars still doesn't change that. There...
