The moon and Jupiter go on a Valentine's Day date in the night sky tonight

Splendid views in my rich field Astroscan telescope. And by 'star-hopping' a little more, you can also catch the planet Uranus quite easily too. I did.

Astronauts may accidentally threaten Mars missions with their gut bacteria, scientists warn

Remember the 'Martian Chronicles' by Ray Bradbury. Earthling astronauts carried chicken pox to Mars and it decimated the entire population of Martians.

Pearl Jam's cosmically charged rock journey continues with new album 'Dark Matter' — Listen to the 1st single

Sounds very good. When the Seattle grunge scene exploded in 1991 I embraced it, and I still enjoy Nirvana and Soundgarden and P Jam and later the Foo Fighters too but not post-Nirvana bands like Bush, Silverchair or Creed (CRUD) at all. But Pearl Jam has gotten only better with time and the same...

NASA Juno spacecraft reveals Jupiter's moon Io like never before (images)

The findings get more exciting and fascinating all the time with subsequent missions. I remember when the Voyager 2 spacecraft first discovered volcanic activity occurring on Io right as it was happening. Io looked like a giant pizza in space. I read an article detailing all of these discoveries...

See December's Full Cold Moon shine in the sky like a Christmas ornament (photos)

This is the rare 13th full moon of the year. FYI, in anticipation of the December release of his new 'I/O' album, Peter Gabriel released one of the tracks with an animated video - at every full moon in 2023, excepting this one of course.

The Christmas Night Sky: A Yuletide Stargazing Guide

The sky is partly cloudy where I'm at but I've been able to observe pretty well. Orion is up in the east, Jupiter is very high ('Christmas Star'?), the Cold Moon is a day short of full and in the western sky I saw the 'Devil' Comet 12P/Pons-Brooks for the 17th time. Beings it's in Lyra, it's...

Watch Blue Origin launch 1st mission in 15 months today

It's wonderful to see AI at work. Nothing from the launch vehicle gets wasted or destroyed. Everything is reusable.

Watch Blue Origin launch 1st mission in 15 months today

I am glad to see that children are getting involved and having their interests stoked. The education and upbringing I had didn't, it was a joke that taught us to be obedient. This is very encouraging and hopeful to me.

Devil Comet' 12P/Pons-Brooks is approaching Earth. Why is it flaring up, 'horns' and all?

Already have observed it 11 times to date. It's easy to locate, near the star Vega. No 'horns' visible to me at this time.

Halley's Comet begins its 38-year journey back toward Earth tonight

Halleylujah! I remember in late 1982 when it was 'recovered' by astrophotos and now we have the means to see it throughout its entire orbit. And contrary to what the media said the last time, the 1985-1986 apparition was anything but a disappointment. In fact, I didn't see another comet that was...

US Space Force's 1st official painting shows military space plane intercepting adversary satellite

NASA is about space exploration for all mankind. Just like ESA, JAXA, etc.

Debris from a near-Earth comet could create an new meteor shower this week

I observed this comet during the Christmas season of 2018. Even in a pair of binoculars it appeared as large as a Full Moon. It soon enough graced the constellation Auriga during Christmas week and into the new year 2019. It was very impressive to say the least.

How to see comet E1 ATLAS high in the night sky in July near the Little Dipper

Saw it once about 2 weeks ago. It looked like a smudge that should not have been there. It was easy to locate, near Ursa Minor. The location helped a LOT.

How to see comet E1 ATLAS high in the night sky in July near the Little Dipper

Great news Even better since it should be visible all night long like Comet Hyakutake was in 1996. Now if we can just have all the Canadian forest fire smoke and haze clear away.
