The first life on Earth depended on a deadly poisonous gas, study suggests

Interesting how life has evolved from oxygen being the killer gas to now where oxygen sustains life. I wonder what will be the next change, if any?

Question How do we know that the universe started with a Big Bang?

Based upon observational and measurable data (is that evidence?), the shape of the universe is either flat or not (possibly a sphere or not). Different data shows different results. What shape do you think it is...

Question How do we know that the universe started with a Big Bang?

It would be very difficult for the tree to prove the seed exists since the tree is inside the seed. Once the tree begins its journey, the seed is difficult to find, if at all. We're inside the big bang (supposedly) trying to prove it exists after our journey has begun.

Question How do we know that the universe started with a Big Bang?

Would this be similar to asking how a tree exists within a seed? Where did the first seed come from?

Can a Black Hole "star" commit fusion, would the photons collect inside the star, would the photons degrade into something else?

You are so right. I only brought up this perspective because I have not seen much on the vacuum that surrounds the black hole which is in a definition of a black hole (someone has observed it in order to be included in a definition?), I bring up a possibility that within the vacuum...

Can a Black Hole "star" commit fusion, would the photons collect inside the star, would the photons degrade into something else?

Starting with the following definition 'A black hole is a point source of matter. It is surrounded by a vacuum, though not a perfect vacuum. ' and reading many perspectives since none of us know for sure what is happening in there, I have a flexible perspective. When an object falls into the...

Question What are we expanding into?

    Greatness!!

Can a Black Hole "star" commit fusion, would the photons collect inside the star, would the photons degrade into something else?

Density=mass/vol. When vol=0 as is assumed in the singularity that would then result in density being infinite. Anything divided by 0 is infinite. The assumption here depends upon what happens to falling objects inside BH-are they squished where volume goes down to 0 or are they spaghettified...

Can a Black Hole "star" commit fusion, would the photons collect inside the star, would the photons degrade into something else?

To answer the thread question, could be that the gravitational force inside the black hole is so strong that any atomical structure would be pulled apart and therefore photons couldn't exist. If it can exists, then it probably would take an infinite period of time to reach the event horizon...

Can a Black Hole "star" commit fusion, would the photons collect inside the star, would the photons degrade into something else?

In my post, what also was said besides BH being nothing is "So, as a summary, I suppose what I'm concluding black holes to be, is an enormous sphere of negative " Since there may be a switch of positive and negative energy, the BH may be just a sphere of that. The BH may contain stuff but it...

Can a Black Hole "star" commit fusion, would the photons collect inside the star, would the photons degrade into something else?

I have no experience or clue, for that matter of what causations are expressed in a black hole. There is a perspective, though, that I like from Josh who also claims to not know much. "I'm not going to claim any real knowledge on the topic, or most of what I bring up, so feel free to correct me...

Question Why can’t we go to Pluto?

With our present setup, there is also another reasons that we can't go to Pluto. We would need to have a power source such as nuclear that doesn't depend on the sun. Only Russia has been using nuclear. Problem is that we haven't figured out how to make it safe and lightweight for the long...

Feature This week's community question is about wormholes!

I'm assuming when you use 'information', you are referring to what is conveyed or represented by a particular arrangement or sequence of things-such as speed, movement, position, what our galaxy is doing, etc. I also assume from what I have read, that only the smallest particles travelling the...

Feature This week's community question is about wormholes!

We may need to learn more about quantum gravity which affects the potential feasibility of wormholes. They may not need negative mass to exist. Until then, wormholes may be to us, as observers, a feat of our imagination.

Feature This week's community question is about wormholes!

Depends on which path is taken-resistance and traffic jams or one of clarity. Similar to paths that information from neurons can take in the brain, nervous system or muscles.
