Nuclear fusion breakthrough: What does it mean for space exploration?

I apologize for the blind assumptions that I made regarding your level of expertise. I've long been well aware that many people have a great deal of expertise in certain fields but can know very little about other fields. I worked with engineers, subatomic particle physicists and astro...

NASA's DART asteroid smash flung 2 million pounds of rock into space

Your analysis and suggestions are good. I agree more preliminary research is needed to refine the best approach.

NASA's DART asteroid smash flung 2 million pounds of rock into space

Thank you for letting me know the strategy is being considered. My view has been that the existing ICBM fleet control centers, or an entity further up in the command, has the capability to substantially, within limits, retarget the missiles and also adjust many of the thermonuclear warhead...

NASA's DART asteroid smash flung 2 million pounds of rock into space

Thank you for your well considered input. I agree that they are not now configured to make such a trip and that many unknowns exist regarding hitting them with a massively high nuclear yield detonation on their surface. I have assumed that many of the current on-alert ICBMs contain multiple...

Nuclear fusion breakthrough: What does it mean for space exploration?

I noticed a strong emphasis around the survivability of our own species. That is typical and often referred to as anthropocentric thinking. Despite your deep training in a specific field of physical science most likely you have a limited academic background in fields such as ecology...

Major breakthrough in pursuit of nuclear fusion unveiled by US scientists

Many find it easy to dismiss what I have presented by branding me as an anti-nuclear activist. Typically when they think of an anti-nuclear activist they see someone who is very skimpy on the details of the technology. I'm not that stereotype. I've been following all the fission technologies...

NASA's DART asteroid smash flung 2 million pounds of rock into space

Once the research has refined the impact effects then serious consideration should be made of utilizing a small portion of the current and retired fleet of U.S. ICBMs to deflect threatening incoming space bodies. I think that would make a better use of their massive thermonuclear warheads.

Nuclear fusion breakthrough: What does it mean for space exploration?

Many people have bought into the concept that we have a duty and an obligation to maintain an optimistic outlook despite the increasingly dire evidence coming from the broad spectrum of scientists, around the globe, that have been studying Anthropogenic Climate Disruption (ACD) effects for at...

Major breakthrough in pursuit of nuclear fusion unveiled by US scientists

I did intend to apply my comment to all forms of nuclear fision energy production. I started following it in the mid-1950s when I was just 10 years old. I was an enthusiastic fan then but allowed myself to understand the deceptions as well. As it turned out nuclear power in the U.S. never grew...

Nuclear fusion reactor 'breakthrough' is significant, but light-years away from being useful

The report of this so called 'breakthrough' came from people who are well versed in obscuring key details because they work in the secret environment of a nuclear weapons laboratory, Lawerence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL). Within it is the National Ignition Facility (NIF) giant laser...

Nuclear fusion breakthrough: What does it mean for space exploration?

In order to embrace the ground-based and spaced-based fusion concepts covered in this article one likely assumes that we have 20-30 years to turn this 'Titanic' around. Such dreamers typically have become masterful at excluding the following warnings from their consciousness. IPCC report: ‘now...
