RIP Higgs, besides being an extraordinary physicist, I believe his name was also used in several Sci-Fi movies - including Alien.

Things won't get really interesting before we manage to build a +1km telescope in space to observe the potential megafauna of these worlds. It may have to have a diameter as large as 10km to actually identify signs of life, but with 3D printers it should be possible.

What about light pollution? & How much time you spend observing/collecting light from the same exoplanet? May be 200km, but I'm pretty damn confident you can get away with less if you place it far enough away from the sun & spend enough time observing the planets 1 by 1. Perhaps as little as 100...
