12 Days of the Wolfman

When one thinks of The Wolfman or “Wolf Man,” images of Lon Chaney Jr. as the lunar beleaguered wretch who, when the moon was full, morphed into a werewolf spring immediately to mind. So iconic was Chaney's "wolf man," he's become the furry film friend industry standard. After making the change from man to wolf, it was off to savagely mangle people who thought it was safe to do stuff in the woods. How led astray they were.

And you’d be wrong, too, if you thought The Wolf Man, released December 12, 1941, was ground zero for all things doggy style. While it’s unlikely you’ll find it at Blockbuster™, 1913’s The Werewolf was the first cinematic man-wolf flick. A silent film, it clocked in at only 18 minutes in length. Just enough time for the werewolf to get his point across. The film was reputed to be lost in a fire in 1924 (probably set by a jealous vampire), so no copies exist today
