1st look at asteroid Bennu samples suggests space rock may even be 'a fragment of an ancient ocean world

I have been wondering for some time about the repeated statements that asteroids are "pristine" examples of the primordial materials that coalesced into planets at the birth of the solar system. With 16 Psyche being suspected of having once been the core of a panet, and now Beneau samples looking like they might have come from a "water world", I am wondering what theories have been explored for one or more sizeable planets having existed and been catastrophically destroyed in the region of the asteroid belt in the period after the currently known planets had formed.
