The announcement comes from Variety through Coming Soon and tells us that the non-fiction book First Man: The Life of Neil A. Armstrong (Play.com / Amazon.co.uk / Amazon.com) will be adapted for the film by Nicole Perlman.
I haven't read the biography, but this is great news. Neil Armstrong definitely deserves to have his story told on the screen. The release date is set for sometime in 2011 and I'm definitely looking foward to it.

Yeah this is definitely one to look forward to watching , all that archived footage will be great . I watched it all on about a 25 in black and white TV using an antenna on the roof so quality wasn't exactly good back then .

Armstrong was a Navy fighter pilot in the Korean war, and flew 78 combat missions. Later, as a civilian, he flew extensively as a test pilot. As a NASA astronaut, he commanded Gemini VIII in 1966, which conducted the first rendezvous of two spacecraft in orbit, and narrowly averted disaster when a stuck thruster made the Gemini craft roll and yaw uncontrollably. In 1968, the pressurization system for the steering jets on Armstrong's lunar landing research vehicle failed. Armstrong ejected safely, but the $1.5 million vehicle was a complete loss.
