I had a thought when reading threw the "Obama asteroid plan more dangerous.." topic.
Could you use a group of bigelow style moduals to attach to a asteroid and eventually form a station? :geek:
Think of it this way.
You have a asteroid a few hundred meters in diameter its basicaly potato shaped or somewhat rounded. Its a rocky, metalic type.
You send moduals to the asteroid with feet that can attach to the surface and get stuck in. You then ring the asteroid with more of these until a complete circle is formed. These landing struts can adjust till the are stable and on angle. You then start building a ring platform for movement between the moduals around the outside of the circle. You can then begin to study or mine said asteroid. Eventually you could strengthen the Hab ring and using thrusters/tugs overtime bring it to where it rotates to provide gravity. You could then using the materials gathered from the asteroid or some other source build up a larger more perpose built ring habitat.
Im not saying it would be easy but would it be possible using todays existing technology?
