A blast from classic SF: British astrophysicist Fred Hoyle’s 1957 novel The Black Cloud, in which an enormous cloud of gas enters the Solar System, blocking the Sun’s radiation from the Earth.
It is common for our solar system to go through clouds of dust and Nebule and become part of the Solar System and even get absorbed by the Sun, giving more fuel to burn.

It is possible for an Ice Age to be formed.
