Another Earth Near Miss

I was reading about all the near misses to our dear planet, and came across this:

In 1972, a 1000-ton object skimmed tangentially through Earth's atmosphere over the Grand Tetons in Wyoming, and then skipped back out into space, like a stone skipping off water. It was photographed by tourists and detected by Air Force satellites. Had it continued on into the atmosphere, it could have caused a Hiroshima-scale explosion over Canada, somewhat smaller than the Siberian blast.

Now, I've tried searching for info on this, but I come up with that same little bit of info I've already read. (As well as info on Tunguska, impending Apophis, etc.) Does anyone know what phrases I should be searching on to find more info on this particular incident?? Of course, maybe I get the limited info because there is no more on this particular incident? The part that especially intrigues me is the fact that it states the object had been photographed, and I was hoping I could find some of these. It'd be interesting, anyway.....

TIA!

AFAIK, the film of that event is not accessable on the web.
I believe the clip was purchased and is used in a production I recently saw on The History channel, or Discovery Channel.
That's the last time I saw it.

If I see the clip again, I'll be sure to remember what show it was on.
D'oh!

oops, I found one!
liml

Wayne

But the Krell forgot one thing John. Hey, thanks MW! Pretty cool video.

Just curious - what'd you search on? Google wasn't the most helpful, as I explained (or tried to) earlier..... Or do you have secret archives that you dug through?

Aw man, just once in your life you get to legitimately open a post with "Elementary, my dear Watson" - and you blew it...

.

bipartisan (bī-pär'tĭ-zən, -sən) [Adj.] Maintaining the ability to blame republications when your stimulus plan proves to be a devastating failure.

IMPEACH OBAMA!

I'd be even more chipper if I could figure out what the #$%@# I imaged this morning. One hour of sleep for playing "star in a haystack" is not workin' for me...

.

bipartisan (bī-pär'tĭ-zən, -sən) [Adj.] Maintaining the ability to blame republications when your stimulus plan proves to be a devastating failure.

IMPEACH OBAMA!

Here's a site I ran across a while ago that has a lot of neat video of fireballs and bolides. It doesn't have the Great Teton one but it's still interesting nonetheless.

-----------------------------------------------------

Ask not what your Forum Software can do do on you,

Ask it to, please for the love of all that's Holy, STOP !
