I haven't heard about them much lately. Are they still operational?

Also, this is kind of off topic but is that really smart guy with a great deal of facial hair still around? He had his own little website explaining some astronomy. I've been away for a while.

I assume you are referring to the Mars Exploration Rovers.

Yes, they are very much still alive.

There are threads about them over on M&L.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

"I hold it that a little rebellion now and then is a good thing, and as necessary in the political world as storms in the physical. Unsuccessful rebellions, indeed, generally establish the encroachments on the rights of the people which have produced them. An observation of this truth should render honest republican governors so mild in their punishment of rebellions as not to discourage them too much. It is a medicine necessary for the sound health of government."

Thomas Jefferson

The mission is going extremely well still, with the rovers ticking not only past their primary mission, but long past even optimistic estimates of their operational lifespan. Check out Spirit's press images -- they used CGI to insert properly scaled models of Spirit into several of its pictures, and the result is some very beautiful imagery. It really makes you feel like you're there, because it puts the landscape into scale.

"People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint it's more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly . . . timey wimey . . . stuff." -- The Tenth Doctor, "Blink"

Here's a link to the "one Martian year" releases for Spirit.

http://marsrovers.jpl.nasa.gov/home/index.html
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will to strive, to seek, to find and not to yeild. - Tennyson

I'm not sure who you're referring to. I know many users have posted their pictures, but I would be hard pressed to even guess who was who if you gave me a lineup of SDC poster portraits. I have no idea who has a beard and who doesn't (although I'll go out on a limb and guess that none of the gals do ).

"People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint it's more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly . . . timey wimey . . . stuff." -- The Tenth Doctor, "Blink"

But I predict the Rovers will have an accident soon; JPL has decided to put a women in the driver's seat...

This must have been back in 2003 or 2004. I remember a poster name "pizzaguy" posting with that old man. He is quite old and a veteran to the forums. I believe he had a "galaxy" account. I am sure you know him.

And where do I remember CalliLady?
*edited* "Time Lady" Thats how I remember.
