Launch window: 2159-2310 GMT (5:59-7:10 p.m. EDT)
Launch site: ELA-3, Kourou, French Guiana

Arianespace Flight 191 will use an Ariane 5 rocket with an ECA upper stage to launch the Amazonas 2 and GMS communications satellites. Amazonas 2 will be operated by Hispasat of Spain to cover the Americas. COMSATBw 1, also called GMS, will provide communications services for the German military.

Ok... The launch is today and I were mistaken yesterday to announce it would happen already then. Probably I wasn't thinking timezone differencies or something like that... But it is better to be one day earlier than one day before if someone wants to see the launch. ;)

For me it will be oct 2. 00:59 so let's see will I watch it live or from Youtube tomorrow. I will post the video here if somebody isn't faster than I. ;)

Wow, that thing really jumps into the sky! I guess I'm used to watching the more sedate shuttle launches, where everything happens in its own good time. Ariane5 looks to be quite a powerful machine! /jd

Yes, unmanned launches use the most efficient plan. Straight up to above the atmosphere, then turn sideways and gain velocity enough to reach orbital speed. Human occupied vehicles have to balance acceleration and recovery in the event of engine failure, so accelerate upward at a slower rate.
