Seems like a solid accomplishment.

I wonder about metal vapor and dust containment, so it's a minimal or non-hazard to the astronauts.

I'm sure they put this machine inside a sealed cabinet. Metal dust and metal vapor is deadly in a space ship. Cause all kinds of problems. This is why NASA spent a million dollars on a ball point pen that would work in space. They did not want a pencil point drifting around the cabin and getting into the electrical contacts.
