Just wondering if it would be useful to create a "go fund me" campaign to get donations from organizations and individuals to get this thing fixed? The world still needs it.

It's not just re-build. It's redesign, operation, maintenance and staffing. Such seems to require the funding, and commitment of the national government(s). I'm all in for spending my and other peoples' tax monies for restoring Arecibo. However, given the current state of the global economy, and the horrific financial burdens due to the covid-19 pandemic, there are more urgent economic and fiscal needs that in good conscience and humanitarian concern have to be addressed by folks and by governments. A "Go Fund Me" for restoring Arecibo may produce a starting basis, but that basis may be "nickels and dimes' when compared to the total needed. Nevertheless, I would contribute.
