HAL: I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that.

So perfect.

The machine shutting the human down.

Although i loved the Mad magazine parody of Dave's telling Hal he'll come in through the pod bay door.

One of the best ever written....

"I've seen things you wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die."
- Roy Batty in "Blade Runner"

Gabriel: "This war is mine!"
Lucifer: "This war is arrogance! And that makes it mine."
-The Prophecy

"It's not the years, it's the mileage."
-Indiana Jones in Raiders of the Lost Ark

'Logan's Run', when Jessica and Logan emerge from the Vox' protien freezer cave into the outside world for the first time in their lives, and see the Sun full ablaze at around ten in the morning,

Jessica- [holding up her hand to shield the blinding light] What is it?

Logan- [holding up his hand palm out] I, I don't know. Whatever it is, it's warm.

From 'Alien',

Ripley- We continue with Dallas' plan, drive it into the airlock, and blow the f----r into outer space.

From 'Wrath of Khan',

Khan- I'm awaiting the data Kirk...

Kirk- [with his reading glasses low on his nose] It's coming now Khan. [Forward phaser blast was what was really coming]

From 'Star Wars'

Luke- [talking about R2D2] That little droid is going to cost me a lot of trouble.

Threepio- Oh, he excels at that sir.

Kirk : "It's faster than walking."
Spock : "But not as safe..."
Kirk : "Are you afraid of cars?"
Spock : "Not at all. It's your driving that alarms me."

Some great quotes here.

From another Kubrick Movie

"Ho, ho, ho! Well, if it isn't fat stinking billy goat Billy Boy in poison! How art thou, thou globby bottle of cheap, stinking chip oil? Come and get one in the yarbles, if ya have any yarbles, you eunuch jelly thou! "

Some what off subject.

One of the things that bothered me in the new Trek was the young Kirk driving.

Since the TOS episode A Piece of the Action clearly showed that Kirk was ignorant of automobiles.

I know alternate reality and all that, but would the reality have changed that much?

IF the 'vette in the Star Trek film were an automatic and the car in Piece Of The Action a stick shift, then it was the clutch & gearbox that had him flummoxed. Problem is they were both stick shifts, confirmed by single-frame stepping through the DVD's, so yes that is a problem.

All I know is, if I had trashed my grandad's 200+ year old Corvette my life would have ended right there. Heck, if I trashed my grandad's year old Corvette I probably would never live long enough to get to Star Fleet.

Lol.

True that. I think sending an antique vette down a ravine would count as an epic trash.

When i was 17 i borrowed my Uncles gull wing Mercedes and scratched the fender.

He has never forgiven me.

I don't remember the exact words...

"...the lives of the many over the few..."
"Or the one." Kirk finishes sadly for his dying friend.
"Damn your Vulcan logic, Spock!" Bones cries, upset because he can do nothing.

Thankfully, Spock's death at the end of Wrath of Kahn was not permenant!

And there's that classic Star Trek quote.
