Not a bad list.
It seems that no one at Space.com has watched Silent Running, which is an excellent movie based on a book by Harlan Thompson. It was done in the 70s I think, and IMAO is a classic.
I have seen other lists here with this movie left out. It's a pity because it's an excellent movie.
Also, personally, I would not have included the Tome Cruise movie remake of War of the Worlds. I would have included the original movie since it was very well done and still stands up today as a good movie. I never got much of the thrill from the Cruise remake.
Also left out, and I believe better than some of the movies listed:
Minority Report
Ender's Game
Jurassic Park
Invasion of the Body Snatchers
Edge of Tomorrow (I really rather liked this movie)
A Clockwork Orange (Classic)
The Thing
To name just a few. Personally, I also liked John Carter of Mars. A lot of people panned it, but I have watched it multiple times and it's actually pretty good.
Forbidden Planet, although not based on a book, was based on writings from several well-known people including Shakespeare and Sigmund Freud.
