to say the least, I can't wait till nanotechnologies are engineered into all these private space companies rockets and Bigalow inflatables!

there's also some other exciting magnetic field thrust technologies I read about a year or two ago that makes me feel confident that once Bigalow uses international business money to fund his space stations and build orbital rockets, space is humanities!

The only problem is the nanotechnologists don't want anybody getting away from earth now!

Benson (dream chaser) may fund Dr. Bussards polywell fusion reactor prototype. If that works....

Well, I'd like to say that I read about this new exotic twisted topology tokomak that seems to have been successfully tested, but even they say commercial fusion is decades away(from the sounds of them, they sound like conventional scientists under=stating things to stay on the safe side). From what I read, I'm confident that if humanity can get through the next few decades, we should make it in some form or another. Even in a nano-era, nuclear fusion powered magnetic field protection from space radiation is needed.

I'd also note that with quantum computers coming around quickly enough, nuclear fusion should come soon enough.

Overal, there is definit reason for optimism in humanities future in space and science!

Docm,

where did you hear about Benson and Bussard?

Oker,

Bussards reactor is not the same as a tokamak, he would be quite insulted I believe if he was associate with them.

From the horses mouth.

Benson talked about it in his Space Show interview. It's 1.5 hours well spent.

His proposal is to impanel a review of Bussard's results and if positive he's interested.

science news is so much, it's already burried, but I think you'd be shocked at what I'm talking about . . . this thing is unlike any tokomak you'll ever see!

oker59;

It shouldn't look like a tomahok (sp??)... because it isn't. Not much more in common than the fact it is a fusion reactor

"I'd also note that with quantum computers coming around quickly enough, nuclear fusion should come soon enough."
- What do quantum computers have to do with nuclear fusion? Other than the fact they are both potential future technologies in development today... ?

It shouldn't look like a tomahok (sp??)... because it isn't.

TOKAMAK (Russian), a toroidal magnetic field confinement reactor

PolyWell, a gridless inertial electrostatic confinement reactor

Both are fusion reactors, but no more alike than Roseanne Barr and Jessica Alba
