So I popped over to the Orion site cuz it's high time I bought some binoculars. I just want something inexpensive yet high quality, good enough for the most basic astonomy but also for occasional use for birding and football games.

Are 7x50 binocs good enough for basic astronomy?

Not much power but you'll get a nice wide view. I'd say they'd be suited for a small amount of basic astronomical observing. Dark skies would help.

Cool, that's what I thought. Dark skies I can do. I just bought 'em, they were seconds at $20 off. Now I can shop for the serious astronomy binocs as I re-learn the winter skies.

GREAT to see you here, NEVERS, I don't get over to this forum much and I'm glad to see your valuable knowledge is still available to us. The ways things are these days, it's no certainty, doncha know.

NEVERS, how does that acronym go again?
Night Ends Visible something something

It goes "Night Ends Viciously Every Rising Sun". Lately, night has been ending before it even gets here...we might as well have 24hrs of daylight! Hope you enjoy the bino's - you gotta love that "seconds" section!

IMHO, don't settle for anything less than IS binocs. It makes all the difference; a very dramatic improvement.
