Since black holes do suck in light and all other materials. And they somehow distort time too right? Next they break apart every thing sucked in atom by atom"singularity" I think is what it is called.
My question is, "what is holding the hole "open"? If all the starting material (the star it derived from) which collapsed in on it's self broke apart through singularity, what is there holding it? How does it maintain gravity pull it has on all other objects like stars and planets and even light, if there is nothing there?

Off the main subject but if a black hole can distort space, why can't we use the same effect to "bend space sort of speak" to travel to distant locations in the galaxy like other star systems? The theory goes by stating we could bend space and bring two separate points in space closer to each other. Next we just travel the smaller gap instead of taking the long way.
You know if this were possible, it would rewrite the law that states "the shortest route from A to B is a straight line".
