(I thought I'd post this here in SS & A as it should be of interest to all astronomers, but if it would be better elsewhere, please feel free to move it.)

I'm sure most here are familiar with this problem, whether in Europe, the US or elsewhere. I saw a report on the London local news on the BBC just now, about how people can't get a good view of the night sky because of light pollution. In the report, a local councillor told of his campaign to replace the sodium orange street lights (the ones that badly affect the view of the night sky the most) with white LED lighting, which according to the report is nowhere near as bad.

Here's a link to the British Astronomical Association's website and their own campaign:

And here's a story from the BBC about Galloway Forest Park in Scotland, which has just been unveiled as the first "Dark Sky Park" in the UK:

I hope these campaigns are successful and was wondering if similar campaigns are taking place in the US and other countries too?

Make it worldwide. Sometimes I get the feeling that the only thing you can see in the night sky is the moon.

Kids will grow up without ever seeing the stars. Anyone remembers Krikkit and its charming inhabitants?
