Canadian astronaut Marc Garneau held a press conference on this subject today:

http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/story/CTVNews/20071004/garneau_space_071004/20071004?hub=TopStories

For those that don't know much about his recent history, he was a candidate for the Liberal party during the last election but failed to gain a seat since the party itself was swept out of power and now the Conservative party is the ruling party. The Liberals have been having problems with their new leader and Marc Garneau decided to leave politics a few days ago as he was constantly being passed up and it was time for him to start earning a living again, in whatever form that might be.

So yeah, there's a video link on the right as well for those that want to hear. Marc Garneau's a really nice guy and I'm glad to see him making the news whenever he speaks.

The good thing about the government Canada has now, by the way, is that it's a minority and that means that other parties have a certain amount of sway in how things happen. With confidence issues there's not much budging but for something like this that doesn't help either party much either way, there's probably a lot more room for more level-headed consultation, and if the Conservatives see something like this to be in their benefit they'll probably do it. They announced quite a bit of money last year for aerospace research, for example.

-----

http://mithridates.blogspot.com
