Well, there has been a lot written lately about "Alien vs Predator," so what about "Star Trek vs Star Wars." I believe that Mr. Spock could teach the Jedi a few tricks!!...or Data....! And vicey versus, also.

I think the Federation at any timeline would have trouble with the Star Wars Imperial Fleet. The sheer number of fighters in Star Wars could overwhelm the big star fleet crusiers. Bring the Klingons up in that mug, that would cool. I like to see what a volley of quantum torpedos would do to one of those big Imperial Star Destroyers...
Don't let your sig line incite a gay thread ;>)

Haha these star wars vs star trek threads are always interesting. The Star Wars fans say, " No way we would destroy the federations" and then list why their ships are better. Then the star trek fans come back with, "No way, we would so destroy the imperial fleet" and then list why their ships are better. Course no one can really compare the two so nothing is ever resolved.

We are in the process of becoming a "Type 1" civilization imho.

The "Federation" is a mid-range Type 1 civilization.

The "Empire" (Star Wars) is a end-range Type 1 or beginning range Type 2 civilization.

The Empire would "fown" the Federation.

Notes:

Kardashev Type I Civilization: like us (we use energy at a rate equal to about 1 trillionth---a thousandth of a billionth--of the rate the Sun emits it) Incidentally, the Earth intercepts about 1 billionth of the Sun's energy, so by using solar power alone, we could have 1000 times as much energy as we currently use.

Kardashev Type II Civilization: Uses all the energy from its Sun. In other words, it uses energy at a trillion times the rate we currently do. Presumably, it could support a trillion times as many "people."

Kardashev Type III Civilization: Uses all the energy from its galaxy. Since there are nearly a trillion stars in a galaxy, that means that it could support nearly a trillion times as many people as a Type II.

I put on my robe and wizard hat...

Hey I like that idea. What increase in power would the Borg experience after they'd assimilated their first Jedi Knight. Would Luke Skywalker fall in love with Seven of Nine or Wesley Crusher? Would Jean Luc Picard be able to resist the lure from the Dark Side of the Force? Maybe Star Trek's medical technology could provide the wookie with an insta-translator, so he could speak in English instead of...err...wookie. Would Spock and Yoda start a club called 'wise dudes with pointy ears'? Would Janeway adopt the doughnet around the ears hair style introduced by Princess Leia? Would Data make fun of R2D2? O the numerous options!

***

Two words: cloaking device.

Yes, I know they mentioned a cloaking device in "Empire Strikes Back", but have we actually seen one in the Star Wars universe? In any event, cloaking devices play a major part in the Star Trek universe, even if it's never in the Federation's hands, proper.

That said, I have no doubt a star destroyer would tear the Enterprise to ribbons, let alone with 100 tie fighters.

Actually, the cloaking device is used in the Star Wars Expanded Universe (EU), in the "Last Command" trilogy of books by Timothy Zahn, featuring Grand Admiral Thrawn. The SW cloaking technology is double-blind; They can't see in but you can't see out either. The ST version is much more convenient to use effectively.

Luke or Vader would sense any cloaked ships and just throw their lightsabers out there and use the Force to guide the 'sabers in cutting up the warp cores.
"But the Federation has access to time travel, and could go back in time to a period before the Empire existed; if necessary the Federation could become the Empire, by contacting the Empire home planet(s) before that world or worlds develop(s) space flight."

Damn Prime Directive.

"Maybe Star Trek's medical technology could provide the wookie with an insta-translator, so he could speak in English instead of...err...wookie."

Actually a wookie called Lowbacca has a flying small translater droid that translates for it. Its not instantaneous, but it works. If they wanted them every wookie could have one, they would just have to mass-produce them.

And later, in the new Jedi Order series a race called the Yuhzan Vong invades the galaxy. They have all organic technology. Their religious mumbo jumbo crap forbids anything else. One of their technologies it the tizo worm, which is an instantaneous translater.

Hmmm, I wonder if the phasing cloak system developed illegaly by the Federations would be any help here...

Wayne

"1) Give no quarter; 2) Take no prisoners; 3) Sink everything." Admiral Jackie Fisher

If so then I am scared by how huge star destroyers are

arobie - Are those sizes actually correct?

They are as close as I could depict them while still having the Starfleet ships show up well on the image. I was using photos that had different lighting sources and didn't want to take the time to correct them. Actually the ST ships depicted would be slightly smaller. However, since their command disk is the only good reflective surface, they wouldn't have show up in the above pic if I had done it to scale.

Check out this awesome sight!

http://www.merzo.net

It specializes in depicting all sorts of ships from science fiction shows... TOO SCALE BY PIXEL! Awesome! Check out the Death Star! It makes VGER look stoooopid!!

Pardon the below pic. I know it will run off the screen. However, I horked the scaled pics from merzo to show you the difference "in scale" so I wanted to present them at their original resolution. Enjoy!

I put on my robe and wizard hat...

Stuff I found:

"The common Imperator-class star destroyer is generally acknowledged to be about 1600m or one mile long."

The Enterprise E is a little under 700 meters in length.

Interesting link I stumbled on:

http://www.theforce.net/swtc/ssd5mile.html

Wayne

"1) Give no quarter; 2) Take no prisoners; 3) Sink everything." Admiral Jackie Fisher

I believe the picture in my latest link above depicts the 17.6km version of the SSD. The author of the website uses the same reasoning as your link provided; the original intention of the artists and developers were along the lines of a massive ship that was over 11 times the size of a ISD. So, 17.6km.

I'm not a huge SW fan. While running around grabbing pics for this thread I stumbled onto pages of controversy and debate regarding everything from ship sizes to what the emperor had for breakfast! It seems there can be alot of inconsistancies in the books from the Star Wars Universe. Well, at least it gives the SW fans something to argue about. Maybe I should of read those books. Then I wouldn't be teh sux when playing SWG.
I put on my robe and wizard hat...

One way or another, they are BIG.

Wayne

"1) Give no quarter; 2) Take no prisoners; 3) Sink everything." Admiral Jackie Fisher

Size doesn't matter. The Borg can "adapt" to any energy-based attack.

Unless of course, if said energy attack obliterates them before they adapt.

Wayne

"1) Give no quarter; 2) Take no prisoners; 3) Sink everything." Admiral Jackie Fisher

The Death Star's lasers can only target a slow-moving or stationary target. Besides, the Borg can beam a few of their drones to that shaft (you know the one I'm talking about), set some explosives and adios muchachos!
