This shows the West that China is a space-capable country now and not a copycat. The USA must invest in pure science more and stop pinching off research and investments if it wants to stay in front. FAA and other agencies need to let SpaceX continue development or the Chinese will land on the moon first. While that is not harmful directly it is a massive step down for our prestige. Be warned. It is not a bad thing for science and humanity if another country surpasses us, it is our problem to solve internally.

I like your approach. Thanks.

The huge prestige win was US landing the first man on the Moon in the 60s, and Soviet ceding the space race. If China is first in this (rather unnecessary) rerun, it will be mostly US and China respective internal propaganda that is affected.
