Comet being the source of oxygen, etc.

I watched the piece on the comet and wondered if comets are suspected of bringing oxygen, nitrogen, carbon, and water, among other things, to Earth, where did these dirty snowballs get all of their supply in the first place? I find it amazing that in reading the various reports on planet Earth, everything, including life, was imported.

... in all the mid-solar system and the outer solar system, ices (in the broad sense, i.e. hydrogen compounds ices, H2O, NH3, CH4...) are extremely common. They constitute most mass of all bodies, big or small, with the only exception of Jupiter and Saturn, (big enough to trap H2 and He).
