communication systems on mars

being that mars has far more ground exposure to radiation than earth, would latest earth-based communication systems such as cell phones and wireless internet systems be directly usable on mars, provided an infrastructure existed there to support it? like microwave towers, satellite arrays, fibre optic cable, etc. <br /><br />in other words, could you take Verizon or SBC to mars and have it work? <br /><br />also, would K-band radar, walkie talkies, GPS systems, function the same there? being that the air is less dense, it would seem that these things would work better on mars than on earth. true or not?
