Contingency for loss of comm

What is the contingency protocol for loss of *all* comm links from a Shuttle on-orbit? Would a crew make a decision to de-orbit themselves and hope that the ground figures out what they are doing in time to set up for a landing?

For them to loose ALL comm, would they not have to loose all electric power? And that being so, would that not mean ... well, that they couldn't really do ANYTHING?<br /><br />But with such redundancy - 'never gonna happen, right?

I hope you are rght. But a piece of foam is never going to cause a hole is an RCC panel is never going to happen either.
