Could space greenhouses solve Earth's food crisis?

Catastrophe

"Science begets knowledge, opinion ignorance.
My personal opinion, which is probably unpopular amongst the unintelligent, is that the human species has been promoting "survival of the unfit" for too long.
Do not get me wrong. I simply mean that our major problem is overpopulation, which leads inevitably to 'plague' of some sort.
Nature is very efficient in dealing with such matters.

I am not promoting discussion on this subject, which would be futile, I am only mentioning it on topic as to the need for off world food production.

Cat :)

Couldn't we mimic the environment of space to get plants to mutate for survival in harsh Earth climates? To do so would be cheaper and have economies of scale. This DNA adaption seems a direction which should be pursued possibly on a priority basis given the projected growth in the human population within the next 50 years.
