Dark Matter and Exotic Dark Matter

Ive just recently read a book containing both of these and I completely understand the whole idea of there being an invisible force that takes up about 90% of the universe. Then later in the book I started reading about the idea of Exotic Dark Matter and am a little confused about the idea. I really dont quite understand it.
