M-Theory says there's 11 dimensions. Now I know four
(Left/right, back/forward, up/down and Time) which are spatial. What are the other 7 dimensions? I also heard that 6 of those seven are curled. What are the names of those six? And what's the 11th dimension?

rodrunner79 - I thought it was String theory, and there is a 10 dimension model and an 11 dimension model - I will wait for others to detail.

The 5th dimension is, I believe, a singing group.

They're supposed to be spatial dimensions, just like the three we're familiar with every day.

However, the theory goes that they are "curled" up on themselves. So they don't extend very far in any direction..enough so that current detection methods are inadequate (though they may be adequate in the future).

So, when you move your hand, you're moving in the 3 standard ones, but you also move absurd fractions of a meter in these other dimensions. Since they are supposed to be "curled" if you move far enough (which isn't very far, as they're very small and tightly curled) you'll end up where you started...in those dimensions. Because of this, they don't impact the larger world around us much.

--------------------SaiphMOD@gmail.com -------------------

"This is my Timey Wimey Detector. Goes "bing" when there's stuff. It also fries eggs at 30 paces, wether you want it to or not actually. I've learned to stay away from hens: It's not pretty when they blow" -- The Tenth Doctor, "Blink"

Saiph - true - in standard models of this theory

However, some models extend to explain the origin of the big bang.

E.g. collision of branes, intersection of different dimensions.

I would need to look it up to detail this.
