I have a subscription to a British Science Fiction magazine called Interzone. I used to have, long long time ago, a subscription to Analog. Does anyone else still buy pulp? BTW, I think Analog was great.

douglas

Very good Question Douglas_clark

I often ride the bus intercity here in NZ. Near the terminal is one of the few places that still sells a few Pulps off the shelf here.

I have brought Analog to read on the trip ( i THINK it was analog anyway, one of the US ones ) about 4 times in recent years. I don't like the consistancy of the stories, so i have stopped buying them now.

I USED to buy old issues of Science Fiction/science fact, Arthur C Clarkes Magazine, Amazing Science fiction, Astounding, your Interzone*and of course Galaxy, from a secondhand shop here in Auckland, they had the VERY best stories in them, all golden age writers.

However, most SH bookshops are gone now in Auckland, and the decrease in supply has lead to a STEEP price curve. You can pay up to $25 for a not very good condition galaxy now. Well, that is YOU might be able to, butI can't go for that sort of dosh.

I would be interested in reading from the best magazine, who has got a suggestion where the quality is now?.

* Thats where i first read Elric of course

I used to read interzone many years ago. I'd forgotten about it, I might have to check it out again.

I enjoyed "Aboriginal Science Fiction" when it first came out.

I agree about the quality of Analog, both then and now.

If I lived in NZ, I would haunt Abebooks.com for more golden age novels, magazines and anthologies. That way they get mailed to you from all over the world.

If you don't know what you want, refer to a list of Hugo and Nebula award winners to be found on a google.
They don't have ALL the best stuff as nominees and winners, but the overall quality is very high.

MarieCurie,

I seem to remember Interzone and Aboriginal SF doing a swap one time. You know, their stories became ours and vice versa. If I remember rightly the quality was pretty good too.

douglas

I have touted Abebooks.com at least four times now and I just want it to be plain that I am not affiliated with them in any way....unless it's that I feel like a pig in chit to have found it!

You want to be careful posting pictures like that here, no telling what JonGlenn might do !

I don't think there is a single Nebula or Hugo winner I have yet to read, with the sole exception of the poetry. Thats the point of belonging to libraries, eh?.

I used to read Analog, Astounding, Fantasy and Science Fiction, and IF. It’s been a while though. With all the books, movies, and TV, there isn’t much time for the old mags.

Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men, the Shadow knows.

OK CE, which are the ones most likely to have quality stories?. I can't bear spending money to find that 3/4 of the stories are crapola.
