Presumably the astronauts and cosmonauts have some way of cleaning their clothes on the ISS. Anybody know what it is?

Here is an interesting article about underwear

LOL

Great article. Innovative uses for "expired" underwear on the ISS.

I wonder: why can't they use something akin to ultra-sound and some charged "beads" to remove some of the soils from garments? True, most macro-soils aren't a problem on the ISS. However, I'm sure some of that stuff can get pretty funky. Dump the soiled laundry in a hamper and give it an ultra-sound bath while rotating it along with some static-charged, polyethelene beads. (The beads could even be in a small, netted bag or something.) Throw in a conventional dryer sheet and add a little bit of heated air to "freshen" the garment. Bathe the compartment with UV to kill bacteria and your done. Dump the beads after their surface is covered with released soils.

Then again, I suppose that they have more important things to do than worry about underwear which has reached an "expiration date."

I put on my robe and wizard hat...

Not as a proponent of an agenda or anything, but the ISS could be a "naturist" environment, and washing clothes would be a non-issue.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

I really, really, really miss the "first unread post" function.

Heh heh.

Well, at least the viewing public would be able to tell how cold it gets in space.

I put on my robe and wizard hat...
