Who remembers the TV series, 'Earth 2', out there? Whatever happened with that show? It certainly had a lot of promise as far as I was concerned, but I think there were only ever a handful of episodes?

I can't understand a network going to all the trouble of getting a show off the ground, only to give it the archer before it has a chance to find its feet. Seems an extraordinary waste of time and money not to pursue it longer.

Who is this superhero? Henry, the mild-mannered janitor ... could be!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bring Back The Black!

Low ratings and high production costs hard for network to take. I liked the show, but it wasn't 'must see'.

Some of the plot stuff was pretty contrived. Why the earth (1) government was so opposed to the whole project was ludicrous.

Some of the ideas were cool, dream communication, Yale, chud things, etc. But not enough to sustain show.

Maybe Sci-Fi Network will do a made for TV movie to wrap it all up. But don't hold your breath.

TPTB went to Dallas and all I got was Plucked !!

So many people, so few recipes !!

Let's clean up this stinkhole !!

Off on a tangent here. This thread reminded me of it.

Remember the Gene Roddenbury movie of the early 70's, Genesis Two? Here's some really funny relationships about it...

In G2, the hero's name is "Dylan Hunt." Same with the lead from "Andromeda." They're both accidental time-traveler's who discover the world that they lived in is gone, destroyed. They both fight to try to recreate it, or some equivalent to it.

In both series, there's "super-people" who had a principal role in destroying civilization for their own selfish gain.

Andromeda is Genesis Two, with the serial numbers filed off, and sold anew with a different paint-job. Curious, eh?

(yes, I know that both are Roddenbury / RK productions)

Differential Diagnosis: "I am both amused and annoyed that you think I should be less stubborn than you are."

Roddenbury did another pilot based on the Genesis 2 premise. i forget the name of it, but it involved a team of astronauts who were left in suspended animation aboard their spacecraft when a nuclear war broke out on earth (shades of "Space Seed" as well!). They eventually revive, return the Earth and have all kinds of crazy adventures in a post apocolyptic world (or at least would have!).

I think I remember it. Didn't last long, maybe the better part of a season...?

Differential Diagnosis: "I am both amused and annoyed that you think I should be less stubborn than you are."

Yes, but the actress who used to do the Clearasil commercials was a babe.

Differential Diagnosis: "I am both amused and annoyed that you think I should be less stubborn than you are."

Bingo. I found her to be particularly attractive. Then again, I like slyph-like women with blue eyes and reddish hair.

Differential Diagnosis: "I am both amused and annoyed that you think I should be less stubborn than you are."

Earth 2 was a show that had a decent idea going for it, but resorted to garbage to keep the interest of the audience.

It was like a "Giligan's Island" meets "Robinson Crusoe on Mars" type of thing but much less interesting.

One thing about sci-fi shows though; Special effects seems to keep them alive. After all, people expect to see spaceships and lasers, alien armadas and fancy battles. But, once you put a bunch of people in the desert with little "sci-fi" gadgetry around (ie: low budget) you had better have a hard-hitting storyline to keep people interested. The characters were interesting and the acting wasn't bad. The storyline just "blew chunks" all over the screen.

I think the show had promise.... before it hit the airwaves. It was kind of downhill from there.

It was the polar-opposite reason that "Space: Above and Beyond" failed. S:A&B had lots of nifty sci-fi junk but little storyline and characters that you didn't care about and you ended up resenting them when the director/producer/writers tried to contrive plots that were attempts to "force" you to care about them. I hate being "forced" to give a crap about a character that has nothing going for it. Of course, being able to "act" wasn't a pre-req for the main characters in that show either.

After seeing many episodes of both of those shows, the viewing experience became much like watching a live, closed-circuit camera presentation of puppies dying of ebola....

...You wanted to help, but you were powerless to do anything more than to change the channel.

I put on my robe and wizard hat...

Anybody remember Space Rangers? Fort Hope, Avalon, Linda Hunt, Boon, Graaka, Jump ships, Faberge egg, Ron Howards' brother....

Ring a bell?

I sure liked it and they only made 6 episodes and IIRC, only 5 aired.

TPTB went to Dallas and all I got was Plucked !!

So many people, so few recipes !!

Let's clean up this stinkhole !!

Genesis 2, the first rendition had Alex Cord (in Earth 2 as well, yes?) and Mariette Hartley as the girl with two bellybuttons. It was awful. Just godawful. The killer line in it was he "liked her pancreas."

Roddenberry was responsible for this Star Dreck.

Wasn't he in charge of a space ship that was a garbage scow and was always trying to make it big with the higher ups but for his inept crew that kept getting in the way? If that was the case, then that one reminds me of "When things were Rotten," a series about slapstick Robin Hood and his merry men in tights. Both seemed about the same, but I did like Quark better and at least watched that one some times.

Where I live, I tried to watch Earth 2, but it kept getting moved around too much. I was able to watch for a few weeks when it first started, and thought it had potential. However, they started moving it around so much, that it was impossible to keep up with. The few episodes I saw later made no sence. Too much "dreamtime." Space: Above and Beyond, however, I loved it. Never missed an episode.

Rae

I watched the pilot of that show and if I recall one of the main characters had a "robotic" arm. That was the first turn off because it's such a cliche of sci fi shows. Someone has to have a robotic arm.

I wasn't big on the chud things. All in all, I just turned it off.

There are still people out there interested in Earth2???
Seven years ago I tried to continue the story with other Fans with a Fanfiction but it never happened.
I was so angry that they didn't continue the show with leaving it at an open end (because everybody thought they're going to continue the show). But okay, if one isn't getting any profit out of it just toss it (damn the Ferengi).
It was a lot more character based then other shows which was the interesting part about it. And hey, I still think camping on another planet sounds interesting.

greetings to all Earth2 Fans (we may be few but we are still out there ) and all other species.

I liked Earth 2 when it first started, but it seemed to go nowhere after a few episodes and lost me totally. I really hated it when they had the aliens coming up out of the ground, that was just a little too much for me.
