Earth moving

I know this sounds VERY out there, but I was wondering this. Would it be possible to keep Earth? I mean when the sun gets ready to kill the Earth, would it be possible to move the Earth back a little bit in order to keep the Earth from burning? And, could we some how move the Earth to a new star when the sun gets ready to "bite the big one"?

I was thinking about this because one day, some body is gonna ask the question, "what was Earth like?". I personally don't want the Earth to be obliterated, all of our history is here, here on Earth.

Problem # 1

Where you gonna get that much energy?
I assume you would want to move it out from the sun, to a cooler area. The way to do that would be to increase the earth's orbitial speed.

That's a HUGE amount of energy.

And watch out, don't get into a resonance with Jupiter, or real bad things canhappen. (Like being totally ejected from the solar system, or injected into the sun)

Then of course, after the Red Giant cools into a white dwarf, you have to move it back even further.

So yes in can be done.
Where you gonna get all that energy??

Besides, at the rate we are going, we will have obliterated our species LONG before then.

But the Krell forgot one thing John. By that time, if we're still alive, chances are we will have the technology to move the Earth and then some ('some' as in 'a hell of a lot'). In fact, the Earth will probably no longer exist, and it's possible the Sun won't either, both having been destroyed to make way for more useful objects (such as giant quantum computers).

________________

Repent! All you need is a really big asteroid

http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/planetearth/earth_move_010207.html

.

Never roll in the mud with a pig. For our purposes, it is fine just where it is.

TPTB went to Dallas and all I got was Plucked !!

So many people, so few recipes !!

Let's clean up this stinkhole !!

Since were talking about something that is to theoretically occur nearly 5 billion years from now. It will depend on how far humanity will advance technologically. Anything is possible.

My borrowed quote for the time being:

There are three kinds of people in life. Those who make it happen, those who watch it happen...and those who do not know what happened.

"I don't want to destroy life, I want to preserve life and the Earth itself. "

For a long time now, Earthlings have been threatening to move heaven and Earth in order to get this or that accomplished. Politicians promise to do so before every election. Moms seem to manage, at least metaphorically, to do it every day. Now a group of scientists says it could be done for real.

Well, heaven might have to stay put. But with existing technology, some advance planning and a little orbital energy, courtesy of a redirected asteroid, Earth's distance from the Sun could be increased by 50 percent in just a few billion years.

It's a scheme that could save the planet, at least for a while. Because if Earth stays in its current orbit, we are doomed.

Click on link, & read the rest of the article

http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/planetearth/earth_move_010207.html

.

Never roll in the mud with a pig. I would submit for the next several thousand of generations, we need not worry about it.

Will civilization survive the next several billion years?

I think not.

This is one case, I say let them worry about it.
We should just try and not make it worse, so humans are not wiped out in the next millenium.

But the Krell forgot one thing John.
