We know that photons are affected by gravity because of Einstein's famous eclipse experiment where the mass of a planet bent starlight. Gravitons slow light , we know this because it's been tested. In the vastness of space between galaxies, there is little or no gravity. The images you see from telescopes is actually more real time than billons of years ago. Gravity originates entirely from the atom, no place else.
