My favorite scene is the sequence where Efran Cochran is about to take off on man's first warp flight but has to load a certain file before launch. Every time I hear "Magic Carpet Ride" I recall that scene.
Bob DeWoody

Classic Shatner: "KHAAAN!"

I still think "Wrath Of Khan" is the best Trek movie ever made.

Classic Shatner: "KHAAAN!"

I still think "Wrath Of Khan" is the best Trek movie ever made.

I almost agree with you. "Wrath of Khan" is indeed (IMO) the finest Trek movie made so far.

But the best lines went to Ricardo Montalban as Khan.

Immediately before Kirk bellows "KHAAAN!" -- Khan offer up this bit of verbiage, letting Kirk know in the sweetest way possible that he (Khan) planned vengeance on Kirk for the death of Khan's wife:

"I've done far worse than kill you. I've hurt you. And I wish to go on hurting you. I shall leave you as you left me, as you left her: marooned for all eternity in the center of a dead planet, buried alive. Buried alive."

And then -- just moments before he dies -- he has these hate-driven words for Kirk, lifted from Herman Melville's Moby Dick:

"From hell's heart, I stab at thee...with my last breath, I spit at thee."

Shatner probably wasn't pleased about it, but Montalban in fact had the movie's best lines.
Just tell the truth and let the chips fall...

Every good action movie always gives the best lines to the villains, in my opinion.

The hero has to be driven by a desire to do good, otherwise he or she wouldn't be someone the audience wants to see triumph. I personally dislike movies in which the protagonist is an anti-hero, so I'm no different.

Perfect example: "Three Thousand Miles To Graceland". I wanted to see police snipers take out the Elvis-impersonating robbers fifteen minutes into the movie. How I am supposed to emotionally connect with the triumph or failure of anti-heroes? I can't.

Villains are different. They have to be dark and complicated, and in my opinion they are what make or break an action movie. I completely agree that Montalban was awesome in that role as Khan.

It makes me chuckle when a movie's villains are played by far better actors than the 'good guy' is. I'm thinking of the Schwarzenegger action film, "Commando". The evil dictator and his henchmen had all the best lines, too, even compared to Arnold's classic one-line quips.

Isn't it amazing how Arnold's character threw that length of pipe right through Bennett and the steel boiler behind him, so that it could vent steam?

The movie 'Commando' is a priceless gem of action and (largely unintentional) comedy.

MATRIX (to stewardess, after killing an evil henchman seated next to him on a passenger jet): Please don't disturb my friend...he's dead tired.

Gee, how long did it take that stewardess to notice the dead passenger with gray skin and a stream of dried blood under his nose? Did she offer him a snack, and just figured he was taking a nap? Remind me not to fly on that airline.

COOKE: You scared, m****r f****r? Well, you should be, 'cuz this Green Beret's gonna kick your big a$$!

MATRIX: I eat Green Berets for breakfast, and now I'm very hungry!

'Commando' is also the only action film to my knowledge that relied on a Jamaican steel drum band for most of the music during the action sequences. It actually worked, I thought.

Bill Duke was great as Cooke. It was so cool to see him again on "Battlestar Galactica" as the crime boss. I wish they hadn't killed his character off.

One more Arnie, from the same movie.

"Conan, what is best in life?"

"To crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women!"
Commando was great!

When it came out, a bunch of guys from my unit and I went to see it about 10 or 12 times. We'd get half-drunk and start quoting the lines with the characters. We got booted out of the theatre a couple of times. Good memories.

My friend and I trade 'Commando' lines at work sometimes.

That film could spawn a thread all its own.
