Even though we're a week away, thought I'd start a thread on this eclipse, so no one misses it. Missing it would be bad, since the next total lunar eclipse won't occur until Dec 20-21 2010.

This eclipse will be visible in it's entirety for most of Western Europe and Scandanavia, NW Africa, all of South America, and all but western Alaska in North America. The moon will be high in the sky for North AMerica

The partial eclipse starts at 0143 UT on Feb 21, for NA 8:43 PM EST, 5:43 PM PST on the 20th. For Europe and the eastern US time zones, the penumbral darkening should be visible a half an hour ot so before that.

Totality begins at 0300 UT (Feb 21); 10 PM EST, 7PM PST (Feb 20) and ends
at 0652 UT, 1:52 AM EST (Feb 21), 10:52 PM PST (Feb 20).

MW

But the Krell forgot one thing John. Monsters. Monsters from the Id.

I really, really, really, really miss the "first unread post" function

Sometimes life gets busy (lets see know anyone who will be at Edwards then ), so I figured I'd throw a bone out there

But the Krell forgot one thing John. Well the nice thing about a lunar eclipse, it is one of the few astronomical things that can be seen in the city, even a hinker like LA or NY.

The Moon will be flanked by Saturn and Leo's Regulus, both of which will be bright enough to be seen from all but the very worst skies.

But the Krell forgot one thing John. Actually the moon will be just rising for you as the partial eclipse starts, so will be due east.

Not sure if you meant looking west, or a position to the west.
You can be west, but will need to be looking east

But the Krell forgot one thing John. Thanks, MeteorWayne! I am greatly hoping for clear skies. I don't care how cold it is. This will be the first eclipse that my daughter will be in a position to enjoy.

"People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint it's more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly . . . timey wimey . . . stuff." -- The Tenth Doctor, "Blink"

Rain predicted for me, but I'm even contemplating a run to NV a state over to get a time-lapse...

Thanks for the reminder!

.

bipartisan (bī-pär'tĭ-zən, -sən) [Adj.] Maintaining the ability to blame republications when your stimulus plan proves to be a devastating failure.

IMPEACH OBAMA!

[blush!] Thank you kindly for that!

If I have any hope at all, believe me, I will post. I'm really wanting to shoot my first time-lapse lunar eclipse. I've never done it before. I'm hoping to set up two cameras, one with a 500-800mm lens piggybacked on the scope, and the other with a much wider angle. I'm not really sure how a tight view will look, so I'm dying to try it out.

.

bipartisan (bī-pär'tĭ-zən, -sən) [Adj.] Maintaining the ability to blame republications when your stimulus plan proves to be a devastating failure.

IMPEACH OBAMA!

Anyone have any pull at NOAA? See if you can get them to redact this??!?!

----------
...SUNNY AND WARM WEATHER WILL BE REPLACED BY COOLER WET WEATHER THIS WEEK OVER NORTHERN INTERIOR CALIFORNIA...

A CHANGE IN THE WEATHER PATTERN STARTING TUESDAY WILL BRING A NUMBER OF WEATHER SYSTEMS THROUGH THE REGION INTO THE FIRST PART OF NEXT WEEK.

THE FIRST SYSTEM WILL MOVE THROUGH THE REGION TUESDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING. AT THIS TIME PRECIPITATION AMOUNTS LOOK TO BE AROUND A TENTH OF AN INCH FOR THE CENTRAL VALLEY WITH AROUND A QUARTER INCH FOR THE MOUNTAINS. SEVERAL INCHES OF SNOW OVER THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS WILL BE POSSIBLE WITH THIS FIRST SYSTEM.

BEHIND THIS SYSTEM A STRONG JET STREAM OUT OVER THE PACIFIC WILL RAPIDLY SPREAD A SERIES OF STORMS INTO NORTHERN CALIFORNIA THROUGHOUT THE REMAINDER OF THE WEEK AND INTO THE FIRST PART OF NEXT WEEK. DUE TO THE NATURE OF THE PATTERN THE TIMING OF EACH SUCCESSIVE STORM SYSTEM COULD CHANGE THROUGHOUT THE WEEK.

----------

.

bipartisan (bī-pär'tĭ-zən, -sən) [Adj.] Maintaining the ability to blame republications when your stimulus plan proves to be a devastating failure.

IMPEACH OBAMA!

Ive had this even marked on my calender for about 2 months now. Checked the weather a few days ago for Wednesday night and it looked good... then i see the weather report tonight and their reporting 60% chance of flurries . This is the first time i'd be seeing a lunar eclipse so ill be upset if it does snow and there is alot of cloud cover (and i usually welcome the snow, but not on this night!)

I feel for you!

I've been planning to do the time-lapse since November when I first plotted the eclipse. Last night was a few whispy high light cirrus clouds, with a nice "moonbow". Right now, we're socked in, thick low clouds, 100% covered. Supposed to get worse for the next week, then suddenly clear. Probably the last storm of our season. Sigh.

.

bipartisan (bī-pär'tĭ-zən, -sən) [Adj.] Maintaining the ability to blame republications when your stimulus plan proves to be a devastating failure.

IMPEACH OBAMA!

It looks like "sunny southern California" won't be living up to its name this Wednesday.

I think it's a violation of the city charter. It doesn't rain here - we siphon it off from everyone else.

I'm a recovering optimist - things could be better.

I just looked up an hour by hour forecast for my area tomorrow.

The day starts out clear, around noon it supposed to get cloudy, between 6-9pm is supposed to snow. From 9-12pm it supposed to be mostly cloudy (this is the time for the eclipse in my timezone) and then it reports clear skies at 1am.

Ive always claimed i have the worse luck in the world when it comes to stuff like this, if that doesn't prove it then i don't know what will! lol

Overcast here in Eastern Washington. I'm hoping and praying we get a change.

In other news: We has a big bright meteor go over town last night. It was spotted from northern Oregon, clear to the Canadian border. I'm sad, it happened about a half-hour before I got out of bed

I think very many people find it interesting. Including professional astronomers. As evidenced anywhere you look...

In fact, I think some previous correspondents may, in fact, feel kinda like a pregnant nun...

.

bipartisan (bī-pär'tĭ-zən, -sən) [Adj.] Maintaining the ability to blame republications when your stimulus plan proves to be a devastating failure.

IMPEACH OBAMA!
