There's a new NASA chief in town. Today (May 3), former U.S. senator Bill Nelson (D-Fla.), 78, was sworn in as the agency's 14th administrator.

Senator Nelson seems an excellent choice both as an administrator and an interface with the Congress.

Nelson flew to space aboard Shuttle Columbia in early January 1986 when he was a congressman from Florida whose district included Kennedy Space Center. He will not be the first NASA admin. to have gone into space however-both Charles Bolton and Richard Truly were former astronauts.
