IMHPoliticalO,

This is an obvious political ruse.

The White House axed Hubble because they know that Hubble is a sacred cow.

If they can keep the debate on Hubble, then there won't be any time left over for anyone to figure out what the White House's true hidden agenda is.

Once Upon A Time,
A Texan man went with his son to visit a Hindu shaman. He asked the shaman to display his finest bull, that he might admire it. The shaman anointed the Bull with water, milk, and purfumed oil, then proudly led the fine huge animal to his front courtyard. The Texan agreed that this was the finest bull he had ever seen, then promptly shot it through the head.

The shaman fell to his knees, weeping, grieving, and screaming "Why? Why have you killed my companion?" The Texan replied that he was having some friends over for dinner that evening, while he sliced out the bull's tenderloin. As the Texan left, he held out his bloody hand, thinking the shaman rude for not shaking it.

Three hours later, the shaman's daughter came to her father in tears. "Father", she said, "Didn't you hear me calling for you? Why didn't you come to my rescue? Couldn't you hear me screaming rape?"

The shaman was so distracted by the animal's death, that he became oblivious to the even deeper evil that the Texan's son was doing.

I love the Hubble images, too, don't get met wrong. But if it's a choice between putting a man on Mars and the Hubble, I choose Mars. Not that it's easy to let the Hubble go. I still hope they save it, it would be a shame.

If it were up to me, though, (if I were in charge) there'd be plenty of money for all the exploration we wanted to do. Hubble, manned mission to Mars, and a fleet of bad ass probes swarming all over everything with a surface, and baloons floating around in the ones that don't. (But there'd be no DEA, no OSHA, etc....)

Heyo

the govt is a club for dumbasses. They are so stupid, how can they tell NASA to deorbit a telescope that is in beautiful condition. But the govt doesnt really give a &%$#@!. they know nothing about space craft. they just want to piss of the nation.

The Hubble did a good job, but I prefer that we send humans to Mars over the Hubble.

When I heard that W was letting everyone know that the Hubble is on his No-Funding Zone/List, I started wondering why he would let this out with all the other stuff that will be gone soon.

Is he testing the climate? Are the people going to clamor for more pictures? Will they want the Hubble to function longer enough that they will pay with donations and corporate monies?

Ah, yes, " It's The Real Thing; Hubble" sponsored by Coca-Cola!!

Aside from possibly finding out whether there was life on Mars, I doubt M2M will be even a fraction as useful to the human race or productive as knowledge obtained from HST was. And manned exploration and colonization will be *much* more dangerous than servicing Hubble. But hey, that's just Diogenes talking.

i think someone needs to get big business involved with space (make a deal with the devil) i really wouldnt mind seeing the hubble with a big budwiser sticker on it as long as it was still doing the job its ment to do.

>First they will axe the Hubble & then the ISS is next. Mark my words, there is a large group of corporations and other organizations totally opposed to space exploration and colonization.

and they are winning. The fall of the Hubble will be seen historically as the fall of the US space program. The Berlin wall has come down. The much larger collapse is in the offing, also due to financial crises.

Goodbye Hubble. Goodbye ISS.

Sadly, goodbye Shuttle and then NASA.

The money has run out altogether with the vision.<

No, the budget has risen...this is a decision that $1billion is not worth it on a telescope that they'll still be able to use up to 2010.

I do not see how they'd gain over $4 billion in 2005 to get the Shuttle fleet ready for a 28-launch manifest...with funding already being paid out for their replacement (the CEV) etc.etc.

I can appreciate the Hubble has some fans - but the Shuttle programme and it's replacement is untouchable in comparison...and hugely more important than this telescope - as great as the images are - when chances are they can do a better replacement and maybe cheaper when de-orbit time comes around.

Meanwhile nine times the money needed to keep it flying went quietly missing in Iraq. Welcome to the Bush-continuum.

I wouldn't put your 'faith' in the Bush vision of space exploration, his religious fundie friends will soon require you to deny post Gallilean cosmology. Because that's what we are really talking about here. Bush policies require Hubble to be scrapped.

I wish I could remember
But my selective memory
Won't let me - Mark Oliver Everett

If you want the Hubble, form a company to take over operations to run the Hubble. Charge people to use it and pay to maintain it. That is if you really care about the Hubble.
>>form a company to take over operations to run the <government>. Charge people <taxes> to use it and pay <taxes> to maintain it. That is if you really care about the <government>.

Done. They just don't want to give it a logo, because it might frighten the public (that would be us) that they have been working so diligently to control.

At this point in time, the company does not realize a substantial profit from outward pointing space based telescopes. It will however, maintain space based surveillance stations, serving in a secondary role as part of a Strategic Defense Initiative. Primary surveillance is accomplished with networked land based monitoring stations that feature a combination of public and private real time digital multimedia.

In other company news:
While the company does not support organized day labor negotiations, it completely supports business, especially gambling and casinos which help fund local hospitals, schools, daycare and hospice centers. In the event that organized labor becomes a problem, the company supports a more relaxed territorial border policy by withholding funding and resources from targeted law enforcement branches.

Energy, Economy, and Politics:
The company assures the public that exorbitant prices for (polluted drinking) water, and (triple digit inflated) electricity have stabilized for the next few weeks. It would like to assure people that King Fahd and friends of the Royal Family, who likely own your mortgage and credit card debts, have no intention of demanding immediate payment for as long as the U.S. is willing to make certain political sacrifices.

The_Company@Home:
Shopping is considered to be the greatest recreational activity in the state by the local home owner associations. There is no need for people to participate in morning jogs, which present a danger to both themselves and their neighbors.

DenniSys.com
