How to pronounce 'Jezero crater.' (Yes, you may be doing it wrong.)

"Yeh-ze-doh" is how you pronounce "lake" in Croatian. "Jeh-zuh-ro" is how you pronounce the name of crater on Mars about to be visited by an American space probe. When the Croats land something on Mars, they can have a say in the matter.

The only people who would have a problem with it are the same pinheads who insist Jupiter's moon is pronounced "eee-yo" instead of "eye-oh" because the former is how you say the name of Zeus's mythological mistress. Even that's probably a better case, since Galileo likely knew the difference when he named the moons, but in any case, he saw Jupiter's four largest moons first, so he got the naming rights. NASA will be the first to put eyes on Jezedo (albeit robotic eyes) so we can at least forgive the scientists and engineers that their vast stores of knowledge may not include every nicety of Slavic languages.

"It's whatever WE say it is" should be one of the spoils of effort and achievement; I think we can comp the NASA team the "pronunciation rights" for at least one Martian crater. Congrats on their upcoming landing of Perseverance at JEH-ZUH-RO.
