The First Cepheid Distance to Centaurus A by Ken Croswell

For the first time, astronomers have detected Cepheids in an elliptical galaxy--Centaurus A--and used them to measure its distance. The astronomers, based in Canada and the United States, say the galaxy is about 11 million light-years from Earth.

Thanks! This was a very interesting website, and the paper that came out the other day on this was also very interesting! It's good to see that the distance estimators for Pop I and Pop II systems seem to be in agreement. I don't know if you are an author on this paper - if so, I'm wondering why DoPHOT/ALLFRAME was used to get the light curves rather than some form of difference imaging (I noticed that ISIS had been used to identify variables but not for the light curves)? Anyway, this is a really neat result!
