I read the book. It was better for NOT having other teleporters in it, and MILES better for not having some sort of "Highlander-there-can-be-only-one" nonsense too.

This looks like it has been "Souped up" for the gee-wiz crowd of short attention spanners, and I HATE to see that happen to a thougtful book.

I made a pact with myself to NOT go see this movie. During the College Football National Championship game, they advertised the heck out of it. and a month and a half later it still isn't in theaters. No Thanx, Jump Dee's....
Don't let your sig line incite a gay thread ;>)

I think it will be exciting. It is a movie about knitting culture in Australia is it not?

No, they over advertised the movie during the game. Even at times placing the stupid "JUMPER" logo over top the score and game stats.

Every commercial break (and trust me, there were waaaaay too many of them, I thought I was watching the NFL) had something for this movie.

Enough is enough, so I say Jump Deez...
Don't let your sig line incite a gay thread ;>)

I just watched the show with my family today, and as we left the show I asked one question. What I asked was, now what did we learn about this?

The general thot seemed to be there were jumpers and others who were opposed to the jumpers, and had been since the middle ages. It was like "jumping" into the middle of a private situation, and figuring out all the why's and wherefore's as it rolled along.

What am I missing?

There were funny parts in it which my wife really enjoyed and laughed at several times. But it left me with those thots already mentioned. Is there a book it was made from? And about a sequel, it did set it up for the jumper to be opposed to special kind of "chaser", I can't remember the name, but I wouldn't want to SPOIL it for any who haven't seen it yet by telling who that special "chaser" was.

Someone mentioned a comparison to Highlander, but that movie gave you more info about the characters then here I think. It wasn't a bad movie, but development didn't seem to be a strong suit here.

The book was by a new author whos specialty is taking a trite SciFi plot device (So far he has done auto-teleportation and alternate worlds) and treating them seriously, to sort of explicate what would really be the likely result.

So, in Jumper the book, the US government pulls out all stops to get their hands on him (he was an American kid) and the implication is they wish to pull him to bits and find the jump organ. And he gets around that without resort to anything more elaborate than you or I might think about, under pressure.

And the alternate worlds thing was VERY interesting, who do you trust to tell?. How do you make money out of it, without letting anyone twig to what you have?. JUST how cunning and determined and swift thinking are the various government agencies?. (You wouldn't be far off base to say "Pretty flocking cunning, actually", right?)

Obviously this approach was deemed too intellectual for the US audience. Hence the grafting on of Mr Jackson et al as an antagonist.

Hey EtAvaunt,

Thanks for the info about this movie. What was the author's name, those books seem interesting to look at.

Your assessment of the book does jive with the premise of the movie to a point, but it was not very well thot out in the movie. I think Sam Jackson's character could have highlited the plot a little more to the main jumper, as that would have fit in with the plot line
very nicely.

Well, better luck next time.
