So, we are definitly looking at an ablative heat shield.<br /><br />OK, Does anybody know what the cost of a heat shield<br />like that would be.<br /><br />Is it possible after a landing to remove the old heat shield and slap on a new one and then re-use the <br />re-entry vehicle?

I think I read they hoped to reuse the CEV up to about 10 times, but that was not a requirement.<br /><br />The heat shield may be jetisoned before landing anyways, especially if thrusters are used to slow final impact/landing.</i>
