Nothing faster than Light Speed.
If human brain can be transferred to AI light signals you have no mass and can travel as fast as light. No ship is required and no faulty human physical body.
This is also the gateway to immortality and therefore time limits do not apply.
Think about It ..
We got to get to very high level AI first .. like the Posatronic brain or better (2525 time frame). The Digital light is the information highway of the Posatronic Brain.

This is the only way to fast travel and the escape of death.

So far this is still way out there Sci-Fi. Death would surely end up being a result. AI could be made to mimic someone, but that's about it. True memory and awareness of self existence could not be transferred.
Bicentennial man is a good movie of this going in reverse. The machine becomes human, or some facsimile of it.

1. AI is a facility, that needs to propagate signals in a media and it's speed limitations.
2. This sounds like transmission of information, not more.
We have enough 'eyes' and 'ears' travelling in outer space for information gathering and AI (specifically ML) together with data science working on it daily.

Is this an issue?
Do we need smaller area to find weaker signals?

Knowing where in space is as big of a challenge as getting there. We will never get there w human bodies and mechanical starships. It’s a long arduous task of small areas at a time. This is why we need to replace the human brain and body w Al and digital signals.
Radio telescopes are faulty in searching too broad with weak signal. They do not have the capability of intelligent communication.
This is sci fi for now but sci fi has an interesting way of becoming sci fact.

You cannot possibly transfer to AI the awesome breadths and depths of evolution that is life (a multi-dimensionality). At most recreating only the narrowly thin surface veneer (having at most output a 1-d stick being in 2-d flatland).

You are correct our brain itself is a time traveler (like dreams we can travel anywhere if we control our brain).
